How USAA statements are structured

USAA checking statements open with an account summary — beginning balance, totals, ending balance — then split activity into labeled sections, typically deposits and other credits first, then withdrawals and other debits, each with its own printed subtotal. Amounts appear in a single column, so a row's direction comes from the section it sits in, and there is no running balance column. Checking and savings usually arrive as separate statement documents rather than one combined PDF, which keeps each file single-account. Our engine reads the section headers to set the sign of every amount, captures the printed section subtotals as intermediate checks, and merges wrapped descriptions — USAA card purchases can run long — before export. Reconciliation then runs in two passes: each section's extracted total is compared against its printed subtotal, and beginning balance plus all activity must equal the ending balance from the summary. Any gap is reported on the results page with the amount involved, never adjusted away. USAA savings statements use the same structure with far fewer rows and convert identically.

What USAA gives you natively

USAA offers transaction downloads in CSV and Quicken/QuickBooks formats for recent activity, typically limited to recent months. Older history comes only as PDF statements, which USAA keeps online for several years on most accounts.

Step by step

  1. Sign in at usaa.com and open your checking or savings account.
  2. Go to the account's statements and documents area and pick the statement period.
  3. Download the PDF statement to your computer.
  4. Upload it to ReconCSV and choose CSV, Excel, or QBO.
  5. Check the reconciliation status and download the converted file.

USAA conversion FAQ

Does USAA let me download transactions as CSV?

Yes, for recent activity — the download tool typically covers recent months in CSV and Quicken/QuickBooks formats. Anything older is a PDF statement only. Upload that PDF here to get CSV, Excel, or QBO for any month on file.

Are checking and savings combined in one USAA statement?

Usually not — USAA typically issues each account as its own PDF. If a file does bundle more than one account, we split it at each account header and parse and reconcile every account separately, so nothing mixes across accounts.

Does it work for USAA business checking statements?

Yes. USAA business statements use the same summary-plus-sections layout with a single amount column. The same section-aware sign handling and beginning-to-ending-balance reconciliation apply.

How far back can I get USAA statements?

USAA generally keeps statements online for several years as PDFs for most accounts. Every one converts here, with reconciliation run against the ending balance printed on each statement.
