How Bank of America statements are structured

Bank of America statements print separate Withdrawals and Deposits columns in the transaction detail, and the account header — account number and statement period — repeats at the top of every page. Activity is grouped into labeled sections such as Deposits and other additions, ATM and debit card withdrawals, Checks, and Service fees, each with its own subtotal, and most pages carry no running balance column at all. Because the sign of a row depends on which section and which column it sits in, our parser reads the section headers and column positions rather than applying one global rule, then assigns debits and credits accordingly. The repeated page headers are detected and discarded so page breaks never turn into phantom rows. Checks are matched by number and kept in sequence. Once everything is extracted, we total each section and reconcile beginning balance plus deposits minus withdrawals against the ending balance printed in the account summary. If the statement's own numbers do not line up with what we extracted, the discrepancy is surfaced on the results page with the amount we are off by — nothing is silently adjusted.

What Bank of America gives you natively

Bank of America offers transaction downloads in CSV/Excel, Quicken, and QuickBooks formats from the account page, but as of this writing the range is limited to roughly the last 90 days plus the current period. Full statement history — typically up to about seven years — is available only as PDF.

Bank of America conversion FAQ

Does Bank of America offer a CSV or Excel download?

For recent activity, yes — the download tool on the account page typically covers about the last 90 days and offers CSV/Excel along with Quicken and QuickBooks formats. Past that window, statements come as PDFs only. Converting those PDFs is exactly what this page is for.

How far back does Bank of America keep statements online?

For most deposit accounts, Bank of America keeps statements online for several years — generally up to about seven — always in PDF form. Any of those months can be converted here, with reconciliation run against the ending balance printed on each statement.

The statement has two amount columns. What does my export look like?

Bank of America prints withdrawals and deposits in separate columns rather than one signed amount. We read which column each amount sits in and export a single signed amount per row, so the file imports cleanly into QuickBooks, Excel, or whatever you use.

Does it work with scanned Bank of America statements?

Scanned PDFs go through OCR first, then the same column-aware parsing. Reconciliation matters most in that path: if OCR misreads a digit, the totals will not tie to the printed ending balance, and we flag the gap instead of passing the error through.
