How Discover statements are structured
Discover card statements follow classic card accounting, which runs opposite to a checking account. The summary page shows Previous Balance, Payments and Credits, New Charges, Fees and Interest, and the New Balance you owe, and the detail pages split activity the same way: payments and credits in one section, purchases and adjustments in another. Charges increase what you owe and print positive; payments and credits reduce it and often print with minus signs. Discover also prints cashback-bonus summaries on the statement — those rewards lines are not transactions and must never become rows. Our parser reads the sign exactly as printed, keeps merchant descriptions intact including the occasional wrapped line, and excludes the rewards summary from the transaction table entirely. For exports headed to accounting software, charges land as expenses and payments land as transfers from your bank account. Reconciliation runs the card way: Previous Balance minus payments and credits plus new charges, fees, and interest must equal the printed New Balance. If a refund or adjustment breaks that equation, the exact row and amount are flagged instead of forcing the totals to agree.
What Discover gives you natively
Discover lets you download recent card activity in CSV, Excel, and QuickBooks-friendly formats from the account activity page, typically limited to recent activity and the current period. Full monthly statements come as PDFs and generally stay available online for several years.

Discover conversion FAQ
Why are my Discover payments negative in the converted file?
A card statement is a bill, not a bank account: charges increase the balance you owe, and payments and credits decrease it. We export exactly that sign convention — purchases positive, payments and credits negative — which is what QuickBooks and most accounting tools expect for a credit card account.
Does Discover let me download activity as CSV or Excel?
Yes, recent activity can be downloaded from the account activity page, but the range is typically limited to recent activity and the current period. For older months the PDF statement is the source, and that is what this converter takes.
Do cashback bonus lines end up as transactions in my export?
No. Discover prints cashback bonus summaries on the statement, and those lines are excluded from the transaction table rather than exported as rows. Reconciliation is run on the card math — Previous Balance minus payments and credits plus new charges must equal the New Balance.
How far back can I get Discover statements?
Discover generally keeps card statements available online for several years as PDFs. Any PDF you have, from any year, converts here with the same reconciliation guarantee.
