How U.S. Bank statements are structured

U.S. Bank statements start with an account summary showing beginning and ending balances, then break activity into labeled groups — card withdrawals, ATM withdrawals, checks, other withdrawals, and deposits — each with its own subtotal and its own Date, Description, and Amount columns. Check rows carry the check number alongside the amount, and reference numbers appear next to many electronic entries. There is no running balance column, so the sign of every row comes from the group it sits in: everything under a withdrawal group is money out, everything under deposits is money in. Our engine reads those group headers to assign debits and credits, keeps check numbers and reference numbers attached to the transaction description, and merges the occasional wrapped description before export. Each group's printed subtotal is captured as an intermediate check, so a misread row usually shows up as a group-level mismatch before we ever reach whole-statement reconciliation. Beginning balance plus deposits minus withdrawals is then reconciled against the printed ending balance, and any gap is reported with the exact amount involved — never rounded away.

What U.S. Bank gives you natively

U.S. Bank provides transaction downloads in CSV and Quicken/QuickBooks formats for recent activity — typically the last several months — with older periods available only as PDF statements. As of this writing, U.S. Bank keeps PDF statements online for several years on most accounts.

Step by step

  1. Sign in at usbank.com and open the checking or savings account.
  2. Go to Accounts → Statements & documents and choose the statement period.
  3. Save the PDF statement to your computer.
  4. Upload it to ReconCSV and pick CSV, Excel, or QBO.
  5. Download the converted file after reviewing the reconciliation result.

U.S. Bank conversion FAQ

Does U.S. Bank let me download transactions as CSV?

Yes, for recent activity — the download tool typically covers the last several months in CSV and Quicken/QuickBooks formats. Anything older is a PDF statement only. Upload that PDF here to get CSV, Excel, or QBO for any month.

How far back can I get U.S. Bank statements?

U.S. Bank generally keeps several years of statements online as PDFs for most accounts. Each converts here, with beginning-to-ending-balance reconciliation run on every statement regardless of age.

Are check numbers preserved from U.S. Bank statements?

Yes. Check rows on a U.S. Bank statement print the check number with the amount, and we keep that number in the exported description. Reference numbers on electronic entries are retained the same way.

Does it work with scanned U.S. Bank statements?

Scanned PDFs are run through OCR and then the same group-aware parser. Because each section's printed subtotal is captured as an intermediate check, an OCR misread tends to surface as a section-level mismatch — and we flag it rather than let it through.
