How Ally statements are structured
Ally statements are clean and consistent: a summary box at the top shows beginning balance, totals, and ending balance for the period, followed by transaction detail grouped into deposits and withdrawals sections. Amounts print as unsigned figures inside each section — there is no signed amount column and no running balance column — so the section header is the only source of a row's direction. Interest earned posts as its own credit line, usually at the end of the period, and descriptions are short enough that wrapping is rare. Our engine assigns debits and credits from the section a row falls in, merges the occasional wrapped ACH description, and captures the printed section totals as an intermediate check. With no running balance to verify against row by row, full-statement reconciliation does the heavy lifting: beginning balance plus every extracted transaction must equal the ending balance printed in the summary box. If the statement's own figures do not line up with what was extracted, the results page shows the exact difference — nothing is rounded or adjusted to force a tie. Ally savings and money market statements share the layout and convert the same way.
What Ally gives you natively
Ally lets you download recent account activity as a CSV from the account page, typically covering recent activity rather than full statement history. Older months are available only as PDF statements, which Ally keeps online for several years.
Step by step
- Sign in at ally.com and open your checking, savings, or money market account.
- Go to Statements and choose the statement period.
- Download the PDF statement to your computer.
- Upload it to ReconCSV and pick CSV, Excel, or QBO.

Ally conversion FAQ
Does Ally offer a CSV download?
Yes, for recent activity — Ally's transaction download typically covers recent activity as CSV. Older months are PDF statements only, which is where conversion comes in: upload the PDF and get CSV, Excel, or QBO for any month.
My Ally statement has no running balance column. How is accuracy checked?
The section a row sits in gives us its sign, and the summary box gives us the printed beginning balance, totals, and ending balance. Beginning balance plus every extracted transaction must equal the printed ending balance, or the difference is flagged on the results page.
How far back can I get Ally statements?
Ally typically keeps several years of statements available online as PDFs. Any of them converts here, including months outside the native CSV download window.
Does it work for Ally savings and money market accounts?
Yes. Ally's savings and money market statements share the same summary-box-plus-sections layout as checking. The same sign handling and full-statement reconciliation apply to all of them.
